Meet Generation Now, The Record Label Cultivating Future Rap Phenoms:
The immediate success of DJ Drama, Leighton “Lakeshow” Morrison and Don Cannon’s record label, Generation Now, was a gift and a curse.
The label’s flagship artist, Lil Uzi Vert, quickly rose in popularity after the release of his Luv Is Rage mixtape in 2015. Since then, he has garnered over a billion streams, earned multiplatinum hit singles (Bad & Boujee and XO Tour Llif3) and nabbed a spot on the Cash Kings list, bringing in $19.5 million.

It’s fairly hard to believe that Lil Uzi Vert is still, by some standards, a new artist. His first studio album Luv Is Rage 2debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart this past year, amassing 150.6 million song streams in its first week alone.
And it seems like Uzi is about to build on that portfolio in 2018. The rapper took to Twitter on Thursday (Jan. 4th) to tease a completed project with producer Wheezy, bragging that it only took the two of them 12 hours to complete.
And this certainly won’t be Wheezy’s first big project either. The 20-something-year-old producer from Atlanta worked with Uzi on “Queso,” the Luv Is Rage 2 track featuring Wiz Khalifa. He’s also responsible for much of the magic found on Young Thug’s Barter 6, as well as some of the bigger tracks on Thugger’s Slime Season, making a name for himself as one of the Atlanta MC’s newest go-to beat makers.
Earlier today, Skeme dropped off his recent project One Night Only 2. The project only consists of five songs but each song finds Skeme freestyling over fire production of some of the hottest songs of the past year similar to the first volume of One Night Only. One of the joints he chose to tackle was “Rick Flair Drip” by Offset and Metro Boomin‘ from their Without Warning project alongside Lil Duece. Needless to say, Skeme & Duece do justice to the beat.
