Raw, passionate, unique. These are just a few words to describe the musical talent of songstress, Carvena Jones. Born and raised in the heart of Jackson, MS, Carvena was raised in a loving yet challenging environment. Facing many unforeseen traumatic events as an early child, she found solace in her church, where her earliest memory of music came from. Sitting in the church pews, a young Carvena would watch her aunts and uncles lead the choir solos, inspiring her to pour her pain and life experiences into song. At age 16, Carvena decided to pursue music full time, finding an outlet to express herself freely and find inspiration through any circumstance she faced.
As Carvena was finding her sound in her teenage years, she was inspired by many of the greats. Carvena credits Whitney Houston’s ability to make you feel every single word, Brandy’s ear and approach to music, Prince’s musicality, Michael Jackson’s ethic and faithfulness towards the craft and Kim Burrell’s musical ear as shaping her into the artist we know and love, today. At 18 years old, Carvena received her first taste of success with a song placement on a signed artist. This placement opened the door for more opportunities to come, as Carvena went on to work with some of the biggest R&B talent and producers including Stevie J, Tank, India Arie, J White and more.
Carvena’s undeniable voice and pen landed her a gig of a lifetime as a finalist on season 2 of hit reality tv show, The Four. With her newfound fan base and supporters, Carvena went on to produce and write for more artists, garnering the attention from musical icons such as Brandy, Diddy, Meghan Trainor, Kehlani, Ginuwine, Tyrese and Tamar Braxton. Her faith, drive and rich tone of voice led to one of the most influential independent labels, Generation Now, to reach out to her partners Kevin Wales and Damon Jackson of Kodac Music Group/Management to discuss signing her to their growing roster of trailblazing talent. In July of 2020, Carvena signed a dream deal with Generation Now/Atlantic Records and is gearing up for her debut release with the label, set for a fall release. Listeners will be able to delve in to Carvena’s life as she delivers a true testament to the woman she was and to the woman she is becoming, over smooth yet hypnotizing beats and a soulful delivery.
